Another Fish Story

While cleaning fish by the river we were greeted by a friendly Cordova Park Ranger. His job is to check to see if we are complying with the law. You know Law has a very important part in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Law shows us that we are all sinners. The Ranger wanted to see our fishing license and also he was interested in how many fish we had caught. He took down our names and wrote down the number of our catch in his little book. If we met up with him later he would have a record of our days earlier activity. You see your only allowed 3 silvers per day in the fresh water. We had not hit our limit, so we would no doubt be doing some more fishing later.

Our conversation became interesting as the Ranger said "For some reason people lie to me." What a great opportunity for witnessing the gospel. I had prayed earlier in the day for an opportunity to be a witness. Here was a God ordained opportunity. So I said, "I can tell you why people lie. People lie because we are all sinners." The Bible says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. I was able to share with the ranger that God's answer for lying was Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died for sinners so that we might be saved from our sin. The ranger was willing to accept a gospel tract and said he would read it. Later that day when we met up with our new friend he told us where we might find some more good fishing. Some day perhaps I will meet him in heaven. I hope he will think about the only answer for lawbreakers and sinners and recieve Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

Gone Fishing!

I can hardly believe that God provided an opportunity for me to fly-fish in Cordova, Alaska. This morning this silver coho salmon decided to take the bate and jumped onto my hook. What a great catch.

There are so many lessons that have come to my mind from this event. First it is fun to go fishing and catch a fish! The rugged surroundings of Alaska are absolutely breath-taking and one cannot be out in it without admiring God's handy work. A double blessings! I thought about the idea of going fishing.... there is no guarantee that you will catch fish, but you can enjoy the activity.

Lesson 1: It is fun to going fishing and catch fish, might also be applied to fishing for men. I have been fishing for men a lot longer than I have been fishing for fish. I can tell you it is great fun to catch men for the Savior as well. Jesus said "follow me and I will make you fishers of men." While it is fun to catch a fish, it is even more exciting to share the GOSPEL and see someone trust Jesus Christ as Savior. LESSON One ... GO FISHING FOR MEN! I started fishing for men on this trip when I arrived at the airport in Columbus. I did some fishing on the flight to Chicago and to Anchorage. Since being here in Cordova we have enjoyed giving out several gospel tracts and hope to be present when the Lord draws someone into His saving net for all eternity.

Lesson 2: Catching the fish is only the beginning, the fish needs to be processed before it can really become a benefit and blessing to us. That means there is a fare amount of work involved in fishing that becomes beneficial. Let's see then, when you catch men for Jesus, that is only the beginning. There is work that should follow as the new believer begins to grow. It takes time and effort to see new believers become a blessing and benefit to others.

There are other lessons, but I am going to stop for now. It has been a long time since I have posted on the blog as you can see. I hope to post over the next few days while here in Alaska. As a parting encouragement why don't you GO FISHING FOR MEN TODAY!

Birth By Faith!

The just shall LIVE by FAITH! Faith in our Crucified, Risen, and Coming Again, LORD! Faith in the living person of Jesus Christ who is infact life for us. Jesus said in John 14 "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Starting this Sunday Bluelick Bible Church will be looking to the Lord for the blessing of new life as we host a special week of meetings with Brother Will Galkins and his ministry team.

The FOCUS is on GOD! THE GLORY IS HIS!

This week I had the privilege of holding our brand new grand-baby girl. Physical birth is such a great expression of God's blessing. Children are a gift from God. I thought as I held Karis Joy; we are blessed and we have so much to be thankful for. Then I thought how blessed we are when someone puts their faith in Jesus Christ as thier personal Savior. The very moment of thier believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ they are Born Again of the Holy Spirit. THE MIRACLE of a NEW BIRTH! What a blessing to know that through the simplicity of the Gospel people are being delivered from sin and given new Life!

Pray with us that many will be born from above this week into the Family of God!

O Worship the LORD

THE WINTER SNOW is such a wonderful reminder of the Goodness and Faithfulness of our God!

His Great Invitition to us - "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." - Isaiah 1:18

How will you live your life in 2011?

The phrase "BY FAITH" is found in the New Testament 37 times. A quick search will yield some exciting principles about how God would have us to live our lives.

Real life begins as you receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour by Faith. Ephesians 2:8 says "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." Acts 16 tells of a distraught jailor who ask a very important question: "What must I do to be saved? And they answered and said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

Romans 1:17 "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." When you know the Lord that makes you righteous or just before God. He expects us to LIVE by Faith!

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

If we live to please God in 2011 we must live BY FAITH! We are to walk by faith, it is by faith that we have access to God and it is by faith that we shall be able to stand.

So how will you live in 2011? Will it be "BY FAITH"?

Seasons Of Life

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" Eccles. 3:1 With the changing of the seasons, comes the opportunity to reflect on where we are in life. I guess with grandchildren now and over thirty years pastoring the same church, you would have to say that I am in the autum of my life....maybe even the winter. I am certainly not in the springtime, that being the beginning.

I enjoy the fall season because it is harvest time. Time to enjoy the reaping of that which has been sown. Jesus had something to say about the harvest in John 4:35 Behold I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. I am thankful that in the fall of our lives we can reap a harvest in obedience to the Lord Jesus. These are exciting days! What a joy to be able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are searching, those who are needy, those who are ready for the Saving Grace of JESUS CHRIST.

This was a quiet place for meditating on God's Goodness and Grace!

Are You Ready To Live?

Some one has well said that you are not ready to live until you are ready to die. While thinking about this I recently visited a cemetery near our church. This grave marker had this inscription written in 1892.

"Remember Friend As You Pass By

As You Are Now So Once Was I,

As I Am Now, So You Must Be,

Prepare For Death And Follow Me"

This is a sobering thought for all of us. We don't know when our time will be up. We need to be ready to die, so that we can live as God has intended us to live. Solomon in Ecclesiastes 9 gives us some good advice about enjoying life now. He makes this pointed statement "For Man Knoweth Not His TIME."

After participating in three funerals in seven days, I thought how do I want to be remembered? What is it that I want people to know about my life? What is it that really should count?

Jeremiah 9:23 - 24 provides some divine guidance. "Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord."

I see three uncertainties in life in these verses; wisdom, might, and riches. The worlds approach to significance; the desire to be, do, or have, none of which are certainties.

I see two opportunities in life that have lasting value; the opportunity to understand the Lord and to know Him. Jesus said "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." What an opportunity we have to understand and know the Lord.

Three certainties that we can count on are God's loving kindness, His justice, and righteousness. What are you living for? What do you glory or boast in? CERTAINLY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!

This is our theme for 2010 at Bluelick Bible Church. We know that God desires us to pray. In this great passage of scripture Paul sets forth the Priority of Prayer when he says in verse 1; "I exhort therefore, that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men;" First of all, we have an obligation to Pray! Then the Principle Focus of Prayer is to be "For Kings, and for all that are in authority:" for all men pray but especially for those who have God given authority over our lives. The Petition of our Prayers "that we may lead a quiet and peacable life in all godliness and honesty." We are to pray for those in authority so that they will allow us to live in a way that pleases God without their interference. The Purpose of such Prayer seems to be that it pleases God and will enable us to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that men may be saved! 1 Timothy 2:3-4 "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." The next two verses give us a reason for Passion in Prayer; "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time." Good & Bad from Adam's Family Tree - Lesson 5

More than a few parents have shaken their heads and lamented, “Where did we go wrong? How can our grown children be so different?” They know how Lindsey and Lori’s parents feel: Lindsey works faithfully children’s church. She is a good wife and mother, and she maintains a proper testimony in her neighborhood. Lori, on the other hand, refuses to attend church. She has been married twice, and now she shares an apartment with a man she met at a bar. “We brought both daughters up in Sunday School and church, had family devotions, and showered them both with love. How do you explain the difference?

Huge question! How do you explain the difference in some siblings? Joe became a police officer, but his brother Jim becomes a bank robber. Mike is a deacon. His brother Mark is an alcoholic.

Adam and Eve wasted a golden opportunity. God had placed them in paradise, the Garden of Eden, and had given them free access to His heart. At first they talked with Him, worshiped Him, and served Him; but then they chose to disobey Him. They squandered their opportunity, fell into sin, marred God’s image in them, experienced separation from God, and could no longer live in the Garden of Eden. Nevertheless, before leaving the Garden they received an object lesson about redemption and the promise that a Deliverer would crush the serpent’s head. They had a spiritual hope, to pass along to the children who would be born to them. But like many parents after them, they would look at their two grown sons, Cain and Abel, and have reason to shake their heads. After all, Abel worshiped God, but Cain committed murder.

Two Distinctly Different Brothers – Genesis 4:1 – 16
1. How would you respond if a parent asked you why one of his or her children grew to love God, while a sibling raised in the same way turned away from God?
2. What did Eve say when Cain was born? (v. 1) Cain’s name means “acquisition” or “gotten.” What might Eve have been thinking? See Gen. 3:15
3. The family is growing. What do we learn in Genesis 4:2 about the first family?

A. Approached God in two different ways
4. We are not told about the childhood of these two brothers. It seems reasonable to assume that Adam and Eve taught them what they had learned the hard way: Satan is a wily foe; temptation is powerful; disobeying God carries painful consequences; and only the shedding of blood atones for sin. When it came to worshipping God how were Cain and Abel different? (v.3, 4)

Sin Has Consequence

The choices that we make have consequences. Genesis, the book of beginnings, tells us about man’s choice to obey or disobey God. The choice was made to disobey God. The immediate and most devastating result of Adam and Eve’s choice was the entrance of sin into their world. The 9^th principle of the ten principles of Reformers Unanimous states “We lose our freedom of choice after we have chosen our actions. The consequences of our choices are inevitable, incalculable and up to God.” How true this statement is in relationship to the first sin. The consequences were inevitable for God had declared them. They were incalculable, for it not only changed the lives of Adam and Eve, giving them a sin nature. This single act would produce a sin nature in the entire human race.

This lesson should cause us to pause and think about the consequences of the choices we make on a daily basis. Every choice will either please God or please our selves. Let this lesson strengthen you to follow the Lord’s direction rather than fulfilling your selfish desires.

Read Genesis 3

The Pursuit – Genesis 3:8-13

1. When the first couple heard the voice of the Lord after their disobedience, how did they respond? V.8

2. How does the Lord pursue sinners today? See John 16:7-11 & Acts 1:8

3. Adam responds to God’s question by explaining why he was in hiding. What are the two reasons given? (V.11) How had sin changed the relationship between God and Adam?

4. God is still seeking to bring Adam to account for his actions. How did Adam and Eve respond when God asked them why they disobeyed? (v.11 -13)

The Penalty - Genesis 3:14-19

5. What judgment is pronounced on the serpent as an animal? (v.14)

6. Remember that the old serpent is identified as Satan in Revelation 12:9. God forecast some battle lines for the future with regard to Satan. Who will have trouble with the Satan according to verse 15?

7. What is the significance of the “seed” of the woman in Genesis 3:15? See Isaiah 7:14 & Matthew 1:21 – 23.

8. What consequences does the woman face as a result of her sin? (v.16)

9. How would you sum up the God’s declaration of judgment to Adam? (V.17-19)

Provision - Genesis 3:20 - 24

10. Why does Adam call his wife’s name Eve? How does this demonstrate hope and faith on Adam’s part? Consider 1 Corinthians 15:22; Romans 5:8 – 15.

11 What picture of God’s provision is foreshadowed by God providing clothing for these first sinners? See Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22; John 1:29; Isaiah 61:10.

12. Why does God put the first couple out of the garden of Eden? (v.22-24)

13. What better way has God provided to take care of our sin and death sentence? See Romans 6:23 John 3:16; Hebrews 10:17-22.

Conclusion: In giving Adam the freedom of choice and a tree of testing, we see a God who wants to be voluntarily loved and obeyed. In His conversing with Adam, we see a God who makes Himself known to His creatures. In the promise of victory over Satan through the seed of the woman, we see the mercy and grace of a God who offers rescue to those who disobey Him. Let’s take these lessons about God and our sin and be quick to come to Him who calls us to renewed fellowship through His precious blood. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:7-9

O Give Thanks Unto the LORD!

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. Psalm 19:1, 2. The beauty of God's creation makes such a wonderful statement about His power and ability to care for us. How can we live without recognizing the Creator God. Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that we are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. What a great admonition is given to us in 1 Chronicles 16:34 "O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise." How we need to take the opportunity to THANK and PRAISE the LORD our Creator lest we begin the steps of moving away from God recorded in Romans 1. Do You Know the God of Salvation? Have you Thanked Him Today! I ran across this great statement which should encourage us in praying for our Nation in these needy times...."Nothing lies outside the reach of prayer, except that which lies outside the will of God." O How GOOD IS OUR GOD!

When I Am Weak

Do we see ourselves as weak? Paul identified with the grace of God and said "For when I am weak, then am I strong"- 1 Corinthians 12:10. Christ is held forth to us as our strength, and He calls us to be strong in Him; "Trust in the Lord for ever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength" - Isaiah 26:4. "Hast thou not known, hast though not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength" - Isaiah 40:29
How do we get strength from Christ? "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" - Isaiah 40:31. So believe His promises, go to Him in faith, plead them before Him, and ask Him to fulfill them in your life. We lay our need of strength before the Lord; He is faithful; He cannot deny us; He will say, "According to your faith, be it unto you." - Matthew 9:29

Consider the Cross

Paul's identification with the cross was key to the life that he lived. In Galatians 6:14 he wrote, "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world." Through the cross there was a death to the world and a resulting new life. Note his confession in Galatians 2:20 " I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

In Living With Your Passions, Tozer writes; "The part of ourselves that we rescue from the Cross may be a very little part of us, but it is likely to be the seat of our spiritual troubles and our defeats."

Have you taken up the Cross today? "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." - Luke 9:23

Liberty to Serve - Gal. 6:1-10 Lesson 9 Adult Bible Study

Paul has written a forceful letter to the Galatians. In the fifth chapter he presented a practical application of the doctrine of grace. He portrayed the difference between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit as he laid out God’s plan for walking in the Spirit. The Spirit-led Christian thinks of others and how he can minister to them.
The tone in Chapter 6 is affectionate as Paul tenderly talks to the Galatians about their personal relationships as fellow believers. Christianity provides the liberty for believers to serve one another. Our key verse tells of a danger Christians face as they serve, the danger of becoming weary of serving. This chapter suggests five things a Christian should not be come weary of doing: forgiving others (v.1), helping others (v.2), working for God (v. 4), helping yourself (v.5), and supporting God and His servants (v.6).
KEY VERSE: “And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9
I. Bearing Burdens– Galatians 6:1 – 5
A. Restoring (v.1)
1. Who especially should believers help? What does the word “overtaken” imply? Please note vs.1 & 10.
2. What does it mean to “restore”? v.1
3. Who should be involved in the restoration process? Are there any cautions to be considered? V.1
4. How does the legalist treat those who have sinned? See Matthew 23:4; John 8:3 – 5; Luke 18:10,11.
5. Jesus compared helping a brother with a problem to eye surgery in Matthew 7:1-5. What does a brother who is planning to help another need first to do?

B. Bearing (v.2)
6. How should Christians support each other? (v.2)
7. What is the law of Christ? (v.2) See John 13:34,35; 15:12; Gal. 5:13.
8. What would happen if we loved each other in Christ to such an extent that we genuinely met our Christian brethren where they hurt? What would happen if we met them on their course to sinful and destructive ends and shared with them real self-giving love to help turn them in the way?

C. Deceiving (v.3)
9. When seeking to bear another burden, what attitude becomes self-deceiving? (v.3)
10. What is the answer to this problem of self-deception? See Romans 12:3; 2 Cor. 10:12; 1 Cor. 4:7.

D. Evaluating (v.4)
11. The word “proves” in verse 4 means to “put to the test”. What should we be proving? What standard should we use for comparison? See Philippians 2:5 – 8.
12. How is carrying one’s own load different from bearing the burden of others? (v.5)

Adult/Teen Study Galatians lesson 8

Liberty From the Flesh!

The Galatians had been called to liberty from burdensome religious customs; but it was certainly not liberty to indulge freely in sin. Paul cautions against any perversion of this teaching on Christian liberty. Simply put, he is saying, “Do not make your freedom in Christ an excuse for self-indulgence.” Indulgence has no place in the life of a true believer. Serving one another in Christian love has every place. Paul wants to get the Galatians away from serving the demands of the law to the place of demonstrating their service for Christ. “It is not law on the outside, but love on the inside that makes the difference. We need another power within, and that power comes from the Holy Spirit of God.”

Conclusion/Application

Galatians 5:13 – 26 is perhaps the most crucial paragraph in the entire closing section of Galatians; for in it Paul has explained the ministry of the Holy Spirit that enables the believer to enjoy liberty in Christ. The Holy Spirit alone can give us freedom from sin and self. He enables us to fulfill the law of love, to overcome the flesh, and to bear fruit that glorifies God. So then what should the believer be doing? Should he not be walking in the Spirit? What is your life characterized by; the works of the flesh or the fruit of the Spirit?

Part of our Christian walk is to be alert to danger that is around us. The Scriptures are filled with warnings. This lion cub was one of five that surrounded us in the bush safari. We were in a open land rover with the ability to move away from the lions. We were curious but aware of the danger. Christians need to be alert to the many dangers that surround us as we move through this life. One of the dangers that we face is that of allowing ourselves to be shacked by religion rather than living in God's Grace.

Shackled or Unshackled?– Galatians 5:1-12

“Watch Out!” “Stop!” We are all familiar with words of warning shouted at times of impending danger. Remember the concerned cry of a parent who protected us by a warning to be careful? Sometimes we wisely responded and we were spared an injury. Other times we refused to listen and suffered the hurtful consequences. Galatians is Paul’s warning to the Gentile believers. If they heed his warning, they will be spared the dangers of legalism.
Galatians 5:1 is both a summary and a transition – a transition from Paul’s doctrine of liberty (chapters 3 & 4)to his life of liberty (chapters 5 & 6). The Gentile Christians had been set free from sin by faith in Christ, but they were making themselves dependent upon a system of regulations and rules. Paul speaks out: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” He is warning them not to allow their Christian liberty to be endangered by legalism. Keep in focus the liberty that is in Christ Jesus!

Faithful Servants!

Bob & Jody Hayton are among God's faithful servants. What a blessing to partner with them in the ministry of the Gospel in Zambia. Their steadfast faithfulness was evident as we went from village to village and church to church in the various areas surrounding Livingstone. The reception was always with joy. These precious tribal people were so appreciative of help both spiritually, physically brought by Bob Hayton and Joe Hadden.
We recieved the following word of thanks from them since returning to Lima: "You all were such a blessing to us here. Thank you for coming and helping in the work. Home & Rested Somewhat!

Praise the Lord! We made it back to Lima. We were in route for some 30 hours. What a trip God gave us. We are so thankful that you prayed for us. We left Zambia on Wednesday at 1:15 P.M. Zambian time. We arrived in Lima at approxamately 3:00pm Thursday. You add in the 6 hours of time difference and you have a lot of time in traveling. Suzanne and I were tired to say the least. We were thankful to be home, to see 4 our our grandchildren, and be treated to a evening meal by Pastor and Mrs. Moreland. We found our beds shortly after 9pm and died to the world until this morning. The verse that comes to my mind is found in Psalm 127:2 "He giveth his beloved sleep!" Looking forward to Sunday and fellowshiping with God's people. Glory to God, Great Things He Has Done!

Monday, August 17, 2009 Wow! Amazing Grace among the Lozi Peoples in Western Province
We headed out of Livingstone toward the Western Province and the Lozi people. We had a full team for this last scheduled trip. Our anticipated 2 hour trip turned into a 5 hour trip with several stops along the way. The first was to pick up Pastor Mulengwani & Ken Mate to be our translators for the Lozi language. Just shortly out of town we came to a police checkpoint and there found two officers receptive to our mission of taking Bibles and the gospel to the Mangumwi village. He stated there are no Baptist churches out there. He requested two Bibles in the Lozi language and also took some John & Romans in English.
We traveled on to roadside gathering. We stopped and found much interest and so spent a good amount of time witnessing and passing out tracts. Two people accepted the gospel and prayed for salvation. Praise the Lord!
We continued on our journey, leaving the modern highway and turning off onto a and road that most of the time looked like a sand trail. Our first stop on this trail was at Chief Yeta Nyama’s village. Brother Hayton had been through this village several times without any good reception. Today we stopped and talked to the head man who invited us to share with the people of the village. After some brief introductions and every one sharing when they trusted Christ, Prudy Long gave a brief presentation of the Wordless Book. Pastor Mulengwani then invited those who understood and wanted to ask God’s forgiveness and Christ to come into their life to pray with Him. What a great blessing, 38 prayed to receive Jesus and we gave them Bibles and portions of Scripture. They were so excited to have Bibles! The Chief was not present today, he was in Lusoka working on a new Zambian Constitution. We left a Bible for him along with some food stuffs for the village.
Our next stop was a family dwelling where they had left an English Bible on an earlier trip. They came out to the Land Rover and asked for a Lozi Bible, so they could read it and understand it. Pastor Mulengwani took the opportunity to share Jesus Christ with them and 5 of the family asked the Lord to Save them.
We continued on our journey and stopped at another village where there was a White Flag flying. The flag indicates there is a witchdoctor in the village. Brother Hayton wanted to leave some gospel tracts. As God would have it, they were open to a brief meeting. They gathered under large tree and listened as the Wordless Book was presented. Then 26 of the adults and children prayed asking the Lord to save them. Included in those listening to the Gospel was the witchdoctor. Brother Hayton took the opportunity to speak specifically to the witchdoctor. He started by saying he knew that the witchdoctor was concerned about the people and wanted to help them, but that things don’t always work out. He said, Jesus never fails and He is available to give Help for He has all power. LIGHT came into the DARKNESS TODAY. See the Joy as they Hold Up their Bibles!
We finally made it to our destination. There we were met a small gathering of believers and worshipped with them. We preached and gave assurance to those who were gathered. We left them with Bibles, literature and several bags of meal and beans to help them.
We began our trip back at 5pm and found ourselves back in Livingstone by 8pm. What a long and glorious day God gave us! We Praise Him for the opportunity to have a part in this fruitful field.
Tomorrow we will rest and prepare to leave on Wednesday. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYER!

God is Doing Great Things!

Today we ministered in a village that was a three hour drive from Livingstone. God blessed with several trusting Christ. Pastor Johashaphat has been able to start six churches in area villages. They came together to praise the Lord and worship together today.

Kim shared her testimony and met another nurse in the gathering. She helped with the soul-winning work at the invitation. Praise the Lord for His continued Grace. Your Prayers are being answered! Please pray for us as we have one more scheduled meeting on Monday.

God’s Appointment at Jackwanamapa!

Our team, minus Suzanne and Glenda, left this morning at 10:15 AM for Malumoni village for another meetings with a couple churches. This village is located one hour and a half from Livingstone. We were only about a half hour from the Livingstone going through Jackwanamapa when we came upon a funeral that was about to begin. The villagers and family were gathering to sit with the body and the widow. Brother Hayton stopped the Landrover and indicated that we would see if we could bring some comfort and share the gospel. Pastor Lawrence who was with us to interpret for the day went to see if it would be allowed for us to speak to the group. We received permission. After some preparation, and gathering the men together, we found that a father with 6 children had died. The children were called to come and listen. We Brother Hayton opened the Word and shared concern for them. He then asked Prudy to share the Wordless book gospel presentation. She shared with great compassion. Then Pastor Lawrence gave an invitation to come and receive Christ. THIS WAS GOD’S APPOINTMENT FOR THE DAY! It was not in our plan; it was not the normal way that Brother Hayton travels to Malumoni, his custom was to go another way most of the time. Today God had a plan for these precious children. All six of them trusted Christ as their Savior. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

We went on to Malumoni Village where many had gathered waiting for us. Today we enjoyed their singing and then Miss Kim was asked to share a story she had prepared. The story was about a missionary in Haiti and a little girl whose father was a witchdoctor. Following her story Mrs. Long shared the gospel with the Wordless Book. The children were given the opportunity to trust Christ. Praise the Lord for a great host of children which came to Christ for salvation today. After a song and the dismissing of the children to another location, I was asked to preach. I brought a message from Proverbs 1:22 on Three Steps from God. God blessed with many receiving Christ and several being delivered from demonic oppression. This was the most intense spiritual warfare so far this trip. Please CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR US! Tomorrow Sunday we will be going to Njobalomi for another meeting.

The Light Has Overcome the Darkness!

This morning our team left for Siandavu Village for special meetings with a couple churches. We left Livingstone after picking up Seangoma a pastor who would interpret for us at this meeting. The village is located to the south out in the bush. We traveled by paved road, then to dirt road then to foot path and over the river and out in the middle of the wilderness is this village and the Siandavu Baptist Church. The church was gathering and excited to see us come.

Pastor Seangoma set the schedule which included two different church choirs who brought special music for us. Then Dr. Long shared his testimony of salvation. Another choir brought a selection of songs. Then Suzanne was asked to teach a Bible lesson. She taught on the woman at the well. There was another song and then I was asked to preach. I brought a message on the broad road and the narrow road from Matthew 7.

Pastor Seangoma gave the invitation and the people began to sing. An older man that had come in during the earlier music got up and walked out. This man had come in, shook our hands and sat with the preachers. I thought he was one of the preachers who had just come late. Actually he was a witchdoctor that had never set through a gospel service. When he left the service Pastor Clifford followed him out, then Brother Hayton also went out.

No one was coming during the invitation. Then Brother Hayton came back into the service with Mr. Siandavu, the witchdoctor and head man of the village. He came desiring to trust Christ. I had the privilege of praying with him as he renounced the devil and put his faith in Jesus Christ. Following this man another came asking to be saved. He too was a witchdoctor. What a glory to see the Light overcome the Darkness. This turned the invitation into a great harvest. Many came and received Christ. GLORY TO GOD! What a privilege to see God work.

Blessings in Muchinga Village

This morning we took two vehicles and made our way to Muchinga Village, which is about 45 minutes from town out in the bush. A ladies meeting had been scheduled with 9 area churches, and a pastor’s fellowship was planned for us to be able to teach the pastors. Our team sang to start out the meeting after the appropriate introductions. Then the pastors and other men were dismissed to a tree outside where we sat and shared the Word for the next two hours. Dr. Long taught from John 10 about the Shepherd’s responsibility. I gave instruction on how to overcome our enemy, who manifest himself in the world, the flesh, and the devil. God has answers in His Word. He tell us to resist the devil, love not the world, and crucify the flesh.
Dr. Long also shared a testimony about handling the trials of life and death. He told about the struggles encountered when Prudy was diagnosed with cancer. He shared how God had answered prayer on her behalf. When his testimony was finished Brother Bob asked those men to stand who had lost a loved one in the last 7 years. Nearly every one stood up. We realized that many have faced the loss of a loved one. Before we closed the meeting an opportunity to ask questions was given. The one question we had time to answer was about Pentecost and speaking in tongues. They are dealing with this issue as false teachers come into the area and try to infiltrate their churches. To close these pastors came around us and prayed for us. What a blessing to have these men of god pray for us. God IS SO GOOD!

Chobe National Park

Yesturday we left Livingstone about 7AM and headed to Chobe National Game Park in Botswana. This is a great expereince for anyone coming from the USA. We went for a one day Safari to experience God's great creation and wonder at the variety of creatures. From the very small birds to the very large Elephants. We were able to see the crocks up close and personal as we went down the Chobe river. The elephants came out to great us as well. The giraffe's showed thier curiousity and the wart hogs seemed to be kneeling in prayer as they ate.

Our experience became especially exciting as we were on the hunt for lions. Our guide did his best to find us the coveted view of a lion. He was able to locate the area where he thought we might be able to see them. With a little coaxing from Tammy Haden and Jody Hayton he continued the hunt. Then we saw a sign that one may be near. He chose to go off the road and into the bush where he thought we might be able to see a lion. Wow! Did we see a lion, not just one but several. The male lion was under a tree in front of us.... we could not see him to well because of the brush... but then to our right we saw a dead elephant carcase and just beyond that a mother lion and two young cubs. Then someone said look to the left. There on the left was another lion about 30 feet away under another tree. Now it was time to move ..... back the truck up ... get out of there we were surrounded by lions... in front of us and on both sides. Just as our guide was about to back the truck up the young lion came over to the carcase of the elephant and began to eat. I tried to take a picture of him before his head went down but was un able to succeed. The two pictures at the close of this article were actual photos take yesturday. What a great God we have!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 THANKS FOR PRAYING!
Yesterday we went to the Tonga Valley for two different village meetings. The first was a meeting that had been arranged for Sunday and Monday. Since we did not make the Sunday meeting, some had already gone back to their homes. This was a regional meeting with several churches participating. There were still over 60 people present including several of the village pastors. Many children and ladies also present. After some wonderful singing and appropriate introductions Dr. Long gave a testimony and told a story that he had prepared. I was given the opportunity to preach with Brother Friday being my interpreter. Brother Friday is the area national church planter that has been trained by Brother Hayton. I preached from Matthew 7 using the illustration of our airport experience to explain that not everyone who thinks they are going to Heaven will get there. They will be denied if they do not have the appropriate identification with Jesus Christ. Jesus said to some “depart from me I never knew you”. God blessed in this service in spite of obvious opposition. Just as the invitation was being given, out there in the middle of the bush comes this loud speaker and sirens… an obvious distraction. We later learned that is was a political promotion being given over a mobile unit.
THANKS for PRAYING as God overruled in the hearts of men and women. Fifteen, including men and women came to Christ for Salvation! Praise the LORD!

After distributing Bibles and song books to the pastors for their churches, we headed to the next village. We pulled into this remote village just as it was turning dark. The people greeted us with great enthusiasm and began to sing. We quickly set up our tents and prepare to get the meeting under way. The meeting began in earnest at 8:30pm and went until 10:30pm when the first invitation was given. Dr. Along and I spoke, Brother Friday gave the invitation. There were about 200 people that had gathered under a tree and a shelter of tin for this meeting. God blessed once again – THANK YOU FOR PRAYING! There were 15 children who received Christ as Savior in the first invitation and as many Adults again in the second invitation. We then dealt with those who had special needs, praying with them individually. During the two hour service several others came in, making it necessary to have another service. After some more singing, Brother Joe Haden preached, while he was preaching there was opposition from the area “cults” who are not accepting of the TRUTH! Nevertheless God blessed and others encouraged in the Lord. We officially closed this meeting at about 12 midnight. Many of these people had walked a great distance to be part of this gathering. They continued to sing and fellowship into the night. We made our way to our tents and tried to sleep midst the strange sounds of the night. Dogs barking and howling, some of God’s creatures making some very strange noises that I have never heard before.

This morning I was awakened by beautiful singing as those who had stayed began to fellowship together. It was 6 A.M. – Rise and Shine and give God the glory. After a cup of hot coffee and a can of peaches (breakfast in the bush) I was asked to teach the preacher boys something. What a blessing to add to the Bible knowledge of these young pastors. They were eager to receive and God gave a blessed time as we talked about the importance of Meditating on the Word and Walking in the Spirit as we war against our enemy in the form of the world, the flesh, and the devil. The focus was on the importance of winning the war of our words – James 3 & 4.
We were on our way back to Livingstone, by 10 AM. This 4 to 5 hour trip was filled with excitement as well. You never know what is come in a day. About 10 miles from home we lost power in the Landrover. We were stranded on the side of the road with no cell phone and no knowledge of how to fix the truck. Praise the Lord for His Provision and Your Prayers. I was able to use the global internet with my computer and send an email to Mrs. Hayton letting her know that we were in need of help. As a follow up we used Skype, which was a brand new program I had down loaded before leaving the states, to make a phone call. Because I had not used it yet, I was allowed one free phone call. That phone call reached Jody with three words before it was cut off and I was unable to make further contact. “Help! Stranded, Check-point,” was all she heard. She just happen to look at the email and get the rest of the information. While all of this drama was going on, Brother Hayton began walking in hopes of finding someone with a phone. In the mean time God sent along some help in the form of passers-by who offered a cell phone we could use and they went back to pick up Brother Hayton. The call confirmed that Jody was on her way to pick us up.
When there are great victories we can expect difficulties that will try to bring us down. We refused to let that Happen! We Praised the LORD and Prayed! Pray that the vehicle will be fixed today so that the schedule for tomorrow will be kept. SERVING A GREAT GOD WHO ANSWERS PRAYER!

Tonga Valley

Wow! We never expected this one. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time and followed some bad information that resulted in our being at the gate to board with our tickets only to find out that we needed boarding passes and that the airlines would not allow us to board the plane. We have learned a great lesson, be very careful about the information that you receive. You may miss a very important piece that could keep you from making your desired destination. The Application is powerful. There are a lot of people giving information about how to get to Heaven, but there is only one way! You may come to the gate and be turned away with out a boarding pass.... Jesus Christ said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life!" We have had a very interesting day. More details will follow. Several other things have happened today to remind us that the battle is real and that we must Trust In The Lord at all times! We covet your prayers. Mission Trip – Journal!
Thursday, August 06, 2009 we left Lima at 12:40pm and headed to the Detroit Metro Airport. After a pleasant trip we arrived around 2:15pm. Checking went very smoothly and we had time to pick up some food at the concourse Max & Erma’s. The flight was delayed by 15 minutes and we were running behind. When getting ready to board our first challenge to our attitude and character came. We were told that there was not enough room for our carry-on luggage and that we would have to check it. This did not seem to be an appropriate option, since we had only 30 minutes to make our connecting flight in Atlanta. We agreed with the assurance that our luggage would be waiting for us along with the baby strollers etc.
The flight was a little turbulent and our time continued to be lessened as we continued our journey. When we arrived it was as we had expected. No luggage! We asked for help from the porter. He informed us that our luggage would have to be picked up at the luggage claim…. impossible for us to do and make our connecting flight to Jo-Berg. I made an appeal to the flight attendant that had promised us that it would be just fine. Our pilot heard my appeal and saw my concern . Here stood Suzanne, Kim, and myself along with another lady all needing our luggage. The pilot said he would see what he could do. He left the plane and was gone for a rather lengthy time while most passengers went on their way. What would we do?
Suzanne looked out the window and exclaimed he has them, he is coming! Up the stairs he came carrying all three of our black bags. We began to thank him and bless him… He said, no need, just go and catch our flight.
Off to the races we went. We had to find our way to the train that took us to the concourse where our plane was ready to leave. We found through the helpful local employee that we would need to move very quickly as our plane was at the very end of the concourse. We got our exercise in for this day. I am sure our hearts were beating much more vigorously than normal. When we arrived it appeared that all were already on the plane. Alas, we were not the last and we are now at 9:10pm, having a comfortable flight. Glenda and Kim are in seats behind us, Dr. Long and Prudy are way up in the front…just shy of the business class. All are well and praying that we will be able to get some sleep during the 15 hour flight. WE ARE PRAISING THE LORD! HE IS GOOD! Nahum 1:7

8:15 AM Looking forward to some food. We had dinner shortly after getting into flight. We have all tried to get some sleep. The emphasis is TRIED! This is ONE LONG FLIGHT! Had good devotional thoughts from Psalm 37, I am so thankful for the promise that we Can COMMIT our way unto the Lord and He Will BRING it to Pass. What a blessing to know that all our ways are in His Care. WILL KEEP you posted as we have opportunity. REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS!

3:00PM your time 9pm South African time. We arrived safe and we are in our motel for the night. The picture was taken after 24 of travel as we waited for a bus to take us to our The Grand Airport Hotel. We expect to have much needed sleep and head for Livingstone, Zambia in the morning.

The Fruit of the Spirit

Vacation Bible School was a great blessing to all who participated. The theme was the Fruit of the Spirit. The children enjoyed learning lessons from skits involving the banana & apple & grape. There was a lot of enthusiasm for learning the songs and the Bible verses.

Galatians 5:22 - 23 says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Our church rejoiced to see children learning and demonstrating these character qualities in their lives. Several young people realized their need of Jesus Christ as personal Savior and called upon Him to come into their hearts. Praise the LORD!

The Teens were involved in TEEN WAR during the evening this year. There were exciting games involving the big ball. Water night was another exciting event. The weather was perfect and the Teens enjoyed the fun, food, and fellowship each night. The team T-shirts were designed with a Scripture cross that gave the key verse for our event. Galatians 2:20 "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live: yet not I but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

We rejoice at the lives that were impacted by the gospel during this wonderful week. God's people worked hard and walked by faith. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

We rejoice and congratulate Dan and Laura who were married on June 13th in Kansas City. They have been honeymooning in sunny Florida and will be returning to Lima for a brief visit before continuing to Champaign, Il. Dan has taken a youth pastor position there.
You are invited to a reception in their honor on Thursday, July 2nd at 7pm. Come and say Hi. The reception is being held at Bluelick Bible Church.

Think Revival!

Just as water revives a plant, so God can revive His People. The prophet Habakkuk prayed for revival in a crisis hour and so should we. "O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy"(3:2). Jeremiah said "This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not" (Lamentations 3:21, 22). Think Mercy! Think God's Mercy! Think about the personal need we have to be Spirit filled and divinely enabled to bring Glory to God. Revival begins with God... "O Lord, I have heard they speech," how we need to be hearing God as He speaks through His Word. Reality brings a right response to God's Word - "was afraid" the fear of the Lord is a much needed response today. Revival becomes a burden of prayer. As God's people beg God for revival in their own lives they will experience His abundant mercies. Read James 4:6-10. What do you learn about God's character and nature? What action is required of those who are needed a "pick me up from God"? Revival is God stirring us up, lifting us up and enabling us to know He is with us. THINK REVIVAL! PRAY FOR MERCY!

Water Makes The Difference

The two pictures demonstrate the difference that water makes for this plant in the matter of an hour. The picture on the left is the result of no water after about two days. The picture on the right is the result of restoring water to this plant. The drooping and obviously in trouble plant is revived in a matter of minutes when cool refreshing water is supplied. In fact you can actually see the leaves spring back to life. From laying down and looking very sad they begin to stand up again and evidence the beauty they were intended to present.

This visual display took place in my office but a few days back. I thought how like this plant without water are we who do not partake of the "water of life" or drink from the "fountain of life". The psalmist said in Ps 36:7-10 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. 10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. The loving kindness of the Lord is readily available to all who will come and are thirsty for real life. Jesus spoke in John 4 of the living water that he would give to the woman at the well if she would but ask. Perhaps you are living your life but missing the refreshing joy of life. Jesus offers to all who will come to Him in faith the "water of life" that will quench our spiritual thirst and cause us to rejoice. In John 7:37-38 we read of the offer that He still makes today;
"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." What an offer. If you are thirsty and it is apparent to others that you are in trouble you need come to Jesus by faith and you can experience the life giving water that has eternal qualities. Salvation an refreshing is an easy as drinking.

Basket Ball Marathon

Friday nights B.B. Marathon was a great time for 3 Jr. high teams and 10 Sr. high teams. There was a lot of talent out there on the court. We want to take this opportunity to congradulate both teams for a job well done.

While the winning teams recieved their trophies there were at least 10 players who receieved an eternal reward. They responded positively to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Dave Stratton brought a message that each caused all the listener to consider their eternal destiny.

The Bible declares that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. That means every young person and adult is guilty before a holy God of sin that could take them to Hell. Romans 5:8 says "But God commendeth His love toward us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." The good news continues. Jesus Christ not only died for our sin, He arose victorious over sin and death and offers to any one the gift of eternal life. Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him form the dead, thou shalt be saved." No one has to die in their sins. The choice is ours. Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." What a blessed gift God offers to us. Have you recieved Jesus as your Savior?

"Came and See Kataba Baptist Church" is a village church near Livingstone, Zambia. The children pictured were some of the many we came in contact with while ministering with our missionaries Bob & Jody Hayton. I share this picture with you as a reminder that we need to be praying for those who are laboring around the world seeking to proclaim the Gospel to those who have never heard.

I will have more to say about this in the weeks ahead as we prepare for our Missions Conference at the end of April. Please pardon our website which is still not up and running as we would like.

- April 18th is packed full of activity as the Primetimers are headed to Jeff's Antiques in Springfield, Ohio at 9 AM. The Children are having a Mexican Party in beginning at 3:30PM. The Teens have a spectacular outing beginning at 6:30PM.

- April 26 - 29th Faith Promise Missions Conference with Brother Rick Flanders, Skip Harkins, Ron Weber, and Cindy Grover. Plan now to be at each service.

The Psalmist reminds us a great truth in Psalm 144:15 "Happy is that People, whose God is the LORD."

YES!

YES! That seems to be our granddaughter Lorain's expression to a wonderful sunny day! YES! is certainly our expression to having our website back up and running. We have been without for almost three weeks. Our apology to those who have come seeking information or encouragement. Our special thanks to the kind technicians who have labored to restore our site.

Just a quick word about this coming Sunday, March 15th. Blue and White Sunday was established as an annual observance 12 years ago. We recognize that those who serve our community in the criminal justice system provide a very important ministry to us. We wanted to say thanks. This year our theme is Freedom for All! Our special speaker is Ben Burks the international director for Reformers Unanimous International. This special service begins at 9:30 AM and will be followed with a dinner for our honored guest. Please Join Us As We Say, THANK YOU!, TO THOSE WHO HAVE COMMITTED THEMSELVES TO PROTECT AND SERVE!

Baptismal Service will be held this Sunday, March 15th at 6pm. Come join us as new believers follow the Lord in obedience to His command in Matthew 28:19

Let Peace Rule

How's the pressure? The last two Sundays have been great reminders to us that Satan like a roaring lion is seeking to destroy us. He is a master of applying pressure to our lives. Pressure that causes us to respond in ways that please him rather than pleasing God. James 3:13 ask the question "Who is a wise man and endured with knowledge among you?" The kind of wisdom that a person has will show up in their responses to the pressures of life. The verse goes on to say "Let him shew out of a good converstation his works with meekness of wisdom." We will evidence who is in control, and where our wisdom for living is sourced, by the way that we respond to the pressures that are at work in our lives. "But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not agaisnt the truth" (James 3:14). Responses that demonstrate bitterness and strife are not sourced in God. James 3:15 tells us "this wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, develish." This worldly wisdom is going to pass away, but the person that lives his life doing the will of God will abide for ever (see 1 John 2:15-17).

When you are trusting the Lord with all your heart and seeking His wisdom your response to pressure will be much different. James 3:17 says "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." The peaceable response does not hold bitterness in or explode with anger. Paul reminds us to "be angry and sin not, let not the sun go down upon your wrath:"(Ephesians 4:26). When we are angry and sin, we give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). We allow the pressures to produce a worldly, develish response. Instead of submitting to God and resisting the devil, we allow his ungodly control in our lives.

How do we maintain right responses in the midst of such difficult attacks? The promise in Philippians 4:6,7 is one place to start. "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Pray! Believe God and expect His Peace to Rule in Your Heart and Mind! God wants you to be at peace. He has provided His peace for you. Prayer is the means available for you to SUBMIT to GOD and RESIST the Devil! James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

"Unto You Who Believe, He is Precous" - 1 Peter 2.7

We are loved with precious love; redeemed by precious blood; comforted by precious promises; justified by precious faith; yea, righteousness, holiness, heaven, we have by union with a precious Jesus. Surely, then, "to them that believe He is precious."
All this, yea, infinitely more than all this, hath Jesus done for a poor wretched race of sinners. Therefore he is indeed to them a precious "Friend, who loveth at all times:" the precious "Brother, who is born for adversity." - Proverbs 17:17. "He is the same yesturday, today, and for ever." Precious in what He hath done Yesturday - shed his blood for the guilty; wrought out a righteousness to cloth the naked. To-day He is pleading our cause before the throne, where "he ever lives to save to the uttermost all them that come unto God by him." - Hebrews 7:25. He makes visits of love, sends kind tokens, refreshing manifestations, causing poor hearts to rejoice in him, filling them with peace and comfort from him. O He is inestimably precious in what He is doing, and in what he will do. For He will never leave one of his members till He has brought them all safe through a wicked world, given them victory over all sin, Satan, and death, and lodged them in the arms of His embrace.
Do the world, sin an Satan threaten our destruction? He is Jesus, our salvation; our all in all! He is indeed precous to all who believe!

In Praise of Purity!

Snow! Snow! Snow! White pure snow was the setting for the Teen Snow Blast 2009 held at Camp CoBeAc. Our teens joined with teens from 2 other churches for fun and fellowship centered on the fabulous fulfilling Word of God!
Dan Neighbors and Laura Jackson teamed up to challenge the guys and girls to live their lives for the Lord. The theme that was very well received was that of Purity! Dan started the weekend encounter with a great challenge from Ephesians 4:17-24. At the very outset God worked to show these young people that God is Holy and He desires Holiness from all of us. One of the key thoughts carried out over the breath of the retreat was that "Once we're saved, we should be different than the unsaved world!"
The guys and gals were encouraged during two separate sessions to make purity a practical part of their lives. Commitments were made to put away sinful habits and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Living a life pleasing to the Lord requires getting to KNOW the LORD! This involves spending time in God's Word and Prayer.
The closing session on Saturday provided great encouragement from the life of Asa. When confronted by opposition that looked impossible, Asa first sought the Lord! His confidence was in the Lord. His prayer set forth a great example for anyone who is facing what seems to be overwhelming odds. The world around us with all the temptation can seem overwhelming unless we realize the provision and power of our God. Remember God is able to help. Asa prayer is part was "Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God: let not man prevail against thee." - 2 Chronicles 14:11.
Pray for all who participated in the retreat. Pray they will truly trust the Lord to walk in purity and holiness.

It Is Time To Seek The Lord!

The context of this great admonition in Hosea is sowing and reaping in light of coming judgment. God offered to His people the opportunity to sow in righteousness and reap in mercy. This great encouragement is echoed in the Sermon on Mount when Jesus said "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" - Matthew 6:33. Certainly as we start the new year there should be some thought given to this priority.

God's Word says on the subject of TIME, that we are to be "redeeming the time, because the days are evil" - Ephesians 5:16. "Redeeming" means "to purchase from out of the marketplace, to redeem by payment of a price, to recover from the power of another, to ransom, buy off, to buy up for one's own self, for one's use. Thayer's lexicon says that in Ephesians 5:16 this word means "to make a wise and sacred use of every opportunity for doing good, so that zeal and well-doing are as it were the purchase-money by which we make the time our own." The idea is that of 'buying back,' at the expense of personal watchfulness and self-denial, the present time, which is now being used for evil and godless purposes.

Notice a cost assigned to this time. The cost involves "walking in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time" (Colossians 4:5). The choice has to be made to walk in wisdom. Wisdom is acquired as we seek the Lord. Proverbs 2:6 says "For the Lord giveth wisdom." The Psalmist said in Psalm 90:12 "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." The number one priority should be seeking the Lord, which will result in the wise use of time for the Glory of God.

Our Prayer and Goal is that you will experience the benefit that comes from time spent seeking the Lord!

Christmas For You!

Bluelick Bible Church has several ways of saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" to you. Truly our hope is that you will know the true meaning of Christmas.

This Sunday evening at 6 PM our Kids4Truth and Children's Department will present CHRISTMAS CAROL at 6 PM followed by a Christmas cookie fellowship. Bring the whole family and enjoy this special evening.
If you enjoy candlelight and carols you will want to join us for our Christmas Candlelight service which will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd at 7 PM. There will be special music along with an all sing Christmas Carols in the atmosphere of candlelight. God's Word will rejoice your heart with the wonderful message that Jesus Christ came into the world to save us from our sins.

We are Praising the Lord with the Angels for two men who recieved Jesus Christ as their personal Savior on Wednesday evening during our special meetings with the Ron Comfort Team.

Be Ye Thankful

Three very important words for all of us. BE YE THANKFUL! We indeed should be Thankful! We should focus our thanks to the Lord who is our Maker and Redeemer. The Psalmist was thankful for sins forgiven - Ps 103:2-3 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities. 1 Peter 1:3 reminds us that this forgiveness is part of the new birth. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Our thanks should extend to everything. 1 Thess 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The expression of this thanks is most easily expressed as we bring every thing to the Lord in prayer. Phil 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.KJV

Thank you for helping with Heartland Baptist Churches request regarding the expression of our religious freedom. The city counsel was listening and it has made a difference. Please continue to pray that the December 4th meeting will result in churches being totally exempt from the revised ordinance concerning canvassers.

Thank The LORD with Us as we begin our F.R.A.N.T.astic Meetings with Dr. Ron Comfort this Sunday at 9:30 AM. Sunday is Friend Day! Monday is Relatives Day! Tuesday is Associates Day! Wednesday is Neighbors Day! Thursday is Teens Day and Friday is Prophecy Night. Please plan to come and bring someone to every service. The weeknight meetings will be held at 7:oo PM.

We are thankful for the fun fellowships that we are able to enjoy here at Bluelick Bible Church. The Primetimers had a wonderful Western night recently and they had a great time as you can see by the pictures. Their next big event is the Christmas banquet being held at the Old Barn Outback on December 12th. Come Join the Fun.

Free Exercise of Faith

You can help maintain the free exercise of our faith in Marysville, Ohio. The Heartland Baptist Church is very concerned about an upcoming ordinance that is being presented to city council on November 20, 2008. The ordinance is calledthe Green River Ordinance and is designed to protect citizens from scams and crimes committed by door-to-door salesmen and canvassers, But without and exemption for churches, the law would require a $75 permit and fingerprints from each canvasser, ban leaving literature at the door, and would make setting foot on a property with a "no soliciting" sign a crime.

Heartland Baptist Church was begun in part by the freedom to go door to door passing out literature and talking to people inviting them to services. Please pray that this ordinance will not pass in its present form.

Please consider sending a note/letter of concern to the counsel, explaining your interest in this type of legislation. While you are not a Marysville resident, sharing your name, location and concern may be of influence on the counsel.

Anticipating A Blessing!

We have two very exciting events coming up here at Bluelick Bible Church. The first is coming this weekend, November 15th & 16th. This Saturday beginning at 1:30 pm, Mr. Steve Curington, founder and president of Reformers Unanimous will be training us in preparation for the start of a new chapter of RUI right here in Lima. This is a faith based addiction program that uses the Word of God to break the bondage of addictions. Mr. Curington will also be preaching in our 9:30 AM service, our 11:00 AM Sunday School and our 6 PM service. If you know anyone who is struggling with an addiction, encourage them, even bring them to one or all of these meetings.

The second event that promises to be a blessing will begin November 30th with Dr. Ron Comfort and his team as they come to minister through December 5th. Dr. Comfort has been with us before and we are excited about the powerful God centered preaching that will be given during this week. We are calling these days F.R.A.N.T.astic Meetings! F. stands for friends, R. stands for relatives, A. stands for associates, N. stands for neighbors and T. stands for Teens. Our goal is to bring friends, relatives, associates, neighbors and teens to these meetings. Pray with us for God's blessing on these F.R.A.N.T.astic meetings.

End Time Praying

Luke 18:1-8 is preceded by Jesus speaking about the Lord's return in chapter 17 and ends in verse 8 with a reference to the Lord's return. This then gives us the context of how we should be praying in the end times. Second Timothy 3:1-3 describes for us what the end times will look like. The description is frighteningly like today. So then here is a parable that can be applied to us today. "Men ought always to pray, and not to faint" - Luke 18:1b. Lessons to consider from the Widow and unjust Judge: These are lessons in contrast!

The Widow was a stranger - We are Children of God. See John 1:12 & Matthew 6:9-13.
The Widow had no easy access to the judge - We have open access into His presence and may come at anytime to get the help we need. See Hebrews 4:14-16.
The Widow had no friend at court to help her case on the docket - But when we pray, we have in Heaven a Savior who is our Advocate. See 1 John 2:1.
The Widow had no promises that she could claim as she tried to convince the judge to hear her case - When we pray we can open our Bible and claim the promises of God. See Jeremiah 33:3.
Perhaps the greatest contrast is that the Widow came to a court of law, but God's children come to a throne of Grace,"that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need".

Pray for America and Plead for God's Mercy for we surely NEED IT IN OUR DAY!

"Serve the Lord with Gladness"

What are we as believers to do in times like these? The psalmist encourages some specific actions that will bring honor to God and keep our focus in the right place.
Psalm 100
1. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
2. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Praise the Lord and singing unto Him. This is the outcome of a Spirit filled life. See Ephesians 5:18 & 19.
3. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Know, understand, accept that we are His creation. Further that we as believers become his children (John 1:12). This relationship is one of special care. We are the sheep of His pasture, recall David's rehearsal of this care in the 23rd Psalm.
4. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Thankfulness will keep your spirit sweet.
5. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. If you will focus on the Lord and remember his truth, mercy and goodness you will have reason to be thankful.
